The Canadian hotel industry reported mixed results in the three key performance metrics for the week of 8-14 January 2012, according to data from STR.
In year-over-year measurements, the Canadian hotel industry’s occupancy ended the week with a 1.3-percent decrease to 48.5 percent, its average daily rate rose 1.5 percent to CAD$119.36 and its revenue per available room ended the week virtually flat with a 0.2-percent increase to CAD$57.90.
Among the provinces, Newfoundland rose 8.6 percent in occupancy to 56.5 percent, reporting the largest increase in that metric, followed by Nova Scotia with a 4.5-percent increase to 41.7 percent. New Brunswick fell 12.2 percent in occupancy to 41.8 percent, posting the largest decrease in that metric.
Prince Edward Island achieved the largest ADR increase, rising 7.1 percent to CAD$83.04, followed by Newfoundland with a 6.5-percent increase to CAD$125.01. New Brunswick ended the week virtually flat in ADR with a 0.7-percent decrease to CAD$106.83.
Newfoundland reported the only double-digit RevPAR increase, rising 15.7 percent to CAD$70.67, followed by Prince Edward Island with a 9.6-percent increase to CAD$33.07. New Brunswick dropped 12.8 percent in RevPAR to CAD$44.65, reporting the largest decrease in that metric.
