  • Hotwire Holiday Hotel, Airfare and Car Rental Deals Appear in Popular Warm and Snowy Weather Destinations Across North America

Hotwire.com released a special 2011 winter holiday edition of the Hotwire® Travel Savings Indicator, which features the top five cities in North America where hotel, air and car rental rates have dropped the most. Hotwire analyzed hotel, airfare and car rental booking data made over the past month for stays over the holidays, including Christmas and New Years, to create this report.  And it looks like there's good news for would-be travelers, because great deals are available whether you want to spend the holiday sunning on the beach, or hitting the slopes.

The two most popular cities in Canada show up multiple times on this edition of the Travel Savings Indicator. Vancouver, British Columbia emerged as a hot deal destination over the holidays, boasting the largest discounts on both the hotel and air lists, and also finding its way into the top five for car rentals. Toronto also makes a strong appearance on the indicator, offering the lowest car rental rates and coming in at third place for discounted hotel prices. Overall, low prices and variety of sporting options make Canada an ideal choice for those looking to use the week between Christmas and New Year's Day to break out the skis and snowboards while still getting a great big-city experience.

The U.S. also has its own hot deal market in Florida, with Miami and Orlando both showing price drops. These sunny and warm destinations are a great option for families and sun-seekers looking to add in a last-minute getaway without paying high prices.

"Christmas and New Year's Day both fall on Sundays this year, so the week between the two holidays is prime trip-taking time, and good deals are available whether you want snow-capped mountains or sun and sand," said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. "Florida is a fantastic locale to consider for families or anyone who needs a break from the winter chill, as both Orlando and Miami are boasting some of the lowest prices across the country. On the other hand, Vancouver and Toronto are perfect for those looking for a winter wonderland; these Canadian cities are two of the hottest deal markets this holiday season."

About the Hotwire Travel Savings Indicator

The Hotwire Travel Savings Indicator runs results during the second week of each month. Results are calculated by looking at Hotwire booking data for select regions in the current month, and comparing prices in the current month against Hotwire prices in the same month in the prior year. Prices are compared within the same categories (e.g., star rating, class of car) for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories. The hotel prices in the charts above are examples for a particular Hot Rate® deal within that market. The airfare and car rental prices are average prices based on bookings across all car and seat classes. Actual prices may be higher or lower than the examples that are provided.
