STR reports Canada performance for week ending 28 November

    The Canadian hotel industry posted declines in all three key performance measurements during the week of 22-28 November, according to data from STR.

    In year-over-year measurements, the industry's occupancy decreased 6.4 percent to end the week at 55.8 percent. Average daily rate dropped 3.0 percent to finish the week at CAD$119.50. Revenue per available room for the week decreased 9.2 percent to finish at CAD$66.66.

    Among the provinces, Prince Edward Island experienced the largest occupancy increase, rising 8.0 percent to 43.4 percent, followed by New Brunswick with a 7.7-percent increase to 58.5 percent. Four provinces reported double-digit occupancy decreases: Manitoba (-17.4 percent to 61.2 percent); British Columbia (-11.9 percent to 49.6 percent); Nova Scotia (-11.5 percent to 50.9 percent); and Alberta (-11.0 percent to 58.9 percent).

    Saskatchewan posted the largest ADR increase, up 6.9 percent to CAD$125.15. Prince Edward Island (+2.6 percent to CAD$80.16) and Manitoba (+1.4 percent to CAD$107.32) also reported ADR increases. Ontario reported the largest ADR decrease, falling 5.6 percent to CAD$115.08.

    Prince Edward Island jumped 10.6 percent to CAD$34.76 in RevPAR, reporting the largest increase. New Brunswick followed with a 7.8-percent increase to CAD$62.60. Four provinces experienced double-digit RevPAR decreases: Manitoba (-16.2 percent to CAD$65.72); British Columbia (-14.5 percent to CAD$57.43); Nova Scotia (-12.7 percent to CAD$55.08); and Alberta (-12.0 percent to CAD$79.68).
