Hotels.com released its biannual Hotel Price Index™ (HPI®) reporting on the most popular travel destinations and the average price paid by travelers while visiting those destinations.

Offered in more than 30 languages, the app allows users to search and book 140,000 hotels around the world. They can choose from 20,000 last minute deals, browse over 2.5 million user reviews and find last-minute bookings close to their location.

Hotel prices have experienced pronounced volatility as a result of political turmoil and natural disasters in the first half of 2011, according to the latest Hotels.com® Hotel Price Index™ (HPI®).

Other findings indicate that strong CDN dollar boosts travel to U.S. more than any other international destination

Many of us don’t realize exactly how economically far-reaching the travel industry really goes. We understand that it has an economic impact on direct travel related sectors, but more and more research is showing exactly how far its secondary effects go. Many experiences over the past decade have shown exactly what we can expect from increasing or decreasing budgets for destination marketing, and the case for encouraging travel – even in a difficult economy – is becoming more attractive.

After the riots broke out in London on August 6, many countries issued warnings or travel alerts, and after so many frightening images were released through different media channels, the number of travelers heading to London began to drop off. Australia, Canada, and Germany all urged their citizens to use extra caution if they traveled to London, and even the U.S. State Department warned that “there have been a large number of disturbances (and) the current situation remains fluid.”

With the year a little more than halfway through, travelers have already experienced a number of travel disruptions from government regulations to travel-industry strikes. Here are some of the top concerns travelers have faced in 2011:
