NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2002--NYC Visitor: Take me to The Melrose Hotel.
NYC Cab Driver: Where?
To ensure conversations like this never happen, The Melrose Hotel, New York, New York City's newest hotel -- which converted from the old Barbizon at 63rd St. and Lexington Ave. on June 1 -- wants cabbies across the city to know there's a new luxury hotel in town, and that finding it should be a breeze.
As a way to introduce the Melrose name to taxi drivers, who serve as unofficial guides to New York City, the hotel is distributing 10,000 Melrose Hotel, New York water bottles to major taxicab companies in the city.
From June 3 to June 7, taxi drivers are invited to bring their bottles to the newly converted Melrose to be filled with the hotel chain's signature lemonade, The Landmark Lemonade of the Day. The original Melrose Hotel in Dallas began the tradition of serving different flavored lemonade daily. A new, fresh flavor will be served each day in New York as well.
We want New Yorkers and the world to know there is a major new business class and luxury hotel in town, and the lemonade is a toast to thousands of cab drivers in New York who will hopefully be taking passengers to our new property in the months to come, said John J. DePaul, president and CEO of The Melrose Hotel Company.
Located on Lexington Avenue two blocks from Bloomingdale's on Manhattan's Upper East Side, the Barbizon originally opened in 1921 and was long known as a women's-only lodging. It officially became The Melrose Hotel, New York on June 1 following the completion of $40 million in renovations.
The 22-story hotel features 306 guest rooms and 12 luxury tower suites with balconies. The hotel also has an on-premises Equinox Health Club, the largest on-site hotel gym in New York City.
