Inn and Spa at Loretto Announces the 'Artist in Residence Program'

The Inn and Spa at Loretto, located in the heart of Santa Fe, announces the new schedule of their \'Artist in Residence\' program beginning this April and continuing through October.

The Artist in Residence Program is one of the many programs and events the Inn will offer throughout the year, as it embraces the “art and soul of Santa Fe.”

“The Artist in Residence Program provides a great opportunity for our guests and neighbors to experience the culture of the arts in a truly magical setting,” said Glenn Bishop, general manager of the Inn and Spa at Loretto. “We embrace artists, creativity and the beauty of expression here, and are excited to share all of this here at the Inn,” added Bishop.

The Inn and Spa at Loretto, in conjunction with the Columbine Gallery and Three Ravens Fine Art, both of which are located in the hotel, offer an impressive list of artists to share their talents and insights. This includes art demonstrations, lectures and personal interaction between renowned artists, guests and locals. Each of the artists chosen specializes in a particular medium, be it sculpture, oil painting, watercolor or drawing, and each represents the diverse and unique art community in Santa Fe.

Join the Inn and Spa at Loretto’s resident artist, Denny Haskew, a renowned sculptor and painter whose work graces the grounds of the Inn at Loretto. He will be “in residence” in the hotel’s Artist’s Studio suite, located in room 217, once a month, starting in May until October 2005. Hotel guests will have the opportunity to meet Denny and visit with him while he sculpts and paints in the Artist’s Studio suite. The Artist’s Studio suite was transformed into a “working” art studio, and features an artist table, original artwork by Denny Haskew and comes complete with art supplies from Artisans, the famous art supply store from which Georgia O’Keefe once purchased her supplies. The suite also has sketchbooks and pencils on the living room coffee table for guests to utilize during their visit. Denny will also be hosting art tours of the hotel’s Sculpture Garden and hotel grounds, where his art, as well as other artists represented by Columbine Gallery, is featured.

The Visiting Artists Series was started in 2003, and the popular series features established artists from either Columbine Gallery or Three Ravens Fine Art Gallery. A select artist will be featured each weekend in the hotel lobby, where they will paint, sculpt, etc. for specific time periods during which the hotel’s guests will have a chance to meet the artists, watch them work and ask questions.

Featured artists this year include Ellie Weakley, a watercolor and oil painter; Teresa Vito, a master of portraiture; Brenda Hart, whose work incorporates her travels, most defining of the objects are the Peruvian textiles she uses as backdrops in her paintings; sculptor Dee Clements; Carol Gold, who creates works in bronze; Buffalo Kaplinski and Pat Howard, both specialists in watercolor painting.

Beginning on Friday, April 22, Inn and Spa at Loretto will host an Artist Welcome Reception every Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm throughout the summer season while an artist is in residence. Guests will be invited to join the visiting Artist In Residence, along with hotel managers and representatives from the hotel’s on-site art galleries, including Columbine Gallery, Three Ravens, Faircloth Adams, Handwoven Originals, and Natural Fashions. This will give guests an immediate immersion into the art, history and culture of Santa Fe, and a warm welcome to the Inn and Spa at Loretto.

Don’t miss the Spanish Market, July 29 – 31, 2005. The rich Hispanic culture of Northern New Mexico will be celebrated at the 54th Annual Traditional Spanish Market, Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The oldest and largest exhibition and sale of Spanish colonial art forms in the United States, Spanish Market features more than 300 traditional Hispanic artists, continuous live music, art demonstrations and regional foods.

The popular 84th Annual Indian Market takes place August 18 - 21, 2005, featuring 1,200 artists from approximately 100 tribes who show their work in over 600 booths.

The Inn and Spa at Loretto’s Artist’s Invitational will take place from October 23 – 29, 2005, where 15 artists from across the country will work in a group studio setting as well as throughout the property, creating works of art in different mediums. This spectacular and interactive event is highlighted by a silent auction dinner event benefiting a local charity.
