    Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) is a leading manufacturer and supplier of a full range of street sweepers, vacuum trucks, high-performance waterblasting equipment and related parts and accessories for municipal and industrial customers. We also manufacture products for utility and industrial customers, including for hydro-excavation, glycol recovery and surface cleaning applications. We manufacture vehicles and equipment in the United States under the Elgin, Vactor, Guzzler, Jetstream, FS Depot and FS Solutions brand names.

    We are currently seeking a TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT LAB ENGINEER based out of our facility in Elgin, Illinois. Ð this position is immediately available.
     
    POSITION SUMMARY
    Reporting directly to the Technology Development Lab Manager, the Technology Development Lab Engineer is responsible for the support of Current Products, New Product Development and Technology Development Engineering projects. The Technology Development Lab Engineer may also support prototype assembly and laboratory testing. The Technology Development Lab Engineer is self-sufficient, needs minimal supervision/direction, makes the decisions, solves the problems and thinks outside the box while leveraging new technologies. Possessing a “can-do” attitude, the Technology Development Lab Engineer has an innovative spirit and uses his/her knowledge/experience to come up with newer, better and more cost effective ideas
    RESPONSiBILITIES

    •         Assemble prototype street sweepers and their components. Install prototype systems on company sweepers.

    •         Adjusts and modifies equipment according to performance and requirements.

    •         Operate Ômachine shop' equipment to modify parts tested or to fabricate experimental parts for testing.

    •         Suggest performance improvements and reliability improvements.

    •         Prepare sketches to document prototype parts and modifications.

    •         Builds prototype vehicles per print or verbal direction, while maintaining tolerances, which simulate production.

    •         Sets up and operates measuring and testing devices to test components and experimental models of mechanical equipment.

    •         Review test request instructions and specifications to identify and plan requirements, assembly and testing.

    •         Assist and/or perform test on prototype systems and components.

    •         Analyzes test results in relation to design specifications and test objectives and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.

    •         Prepare test request and reports describing findings and conditions under which test were conducted.

    •         Function as department liaison between EPG Lab technical staff and internal/external customers.

    •         Coordinate and work in conjunction with internal/external customers to design, layout or detail components and systems for testing.

    •         Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned.
    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

    •         Ability to read and understand blueprints and assembly drawings.

    •         Ability to read and understand hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical schematics.

    •         Ability to trouble shoot and repair pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical system problems using traditional industry practices and equipment.

    •         Ability to set up and conduct testing of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance.

    •         Ability to verify dimensions of parts and installation of components using measuring instruments.

    •         Ability to fabricate electrical harnesses from drawings or in prototype stage.

    •         Ability to fabricate hydraulic hose needed for hydraulic fit-up.

    •         Ability to set-up prototype and test apparatus and operate test equipment to observe and record test results and prototype fit-up.

    •         Ability to answer questions in the absence of the requestor based on knowledge of the scope of the project or request.

    •         Ability to develop detailed design drawings using CAD System for mechanical test stands.

    •         Ability to edit CAD files to reflect changes in designs found during testing and prototype builds.

    •         Knowledge of hand tools pertaining to assembly.

    •         Utilize experience, mathematics and engineering disciplines to verify test results.

    •         Proficient with Microsoft Office.

    •         Travels into field to assist performance or investigate problems with equipment.

    •         Minimum of 16 hours of training.

    •         Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering required.

    •         3 + years engineering experience required.
