The majority of South and Central American cities tracked by STR Global, the leading provider of market data to the hotel industry, continued to report revenue-per-available-room (RevPAR) improvements for the first quarter 2012 compared to the same timeframe last year.

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates, all experienced continued RevPAR improvements during the first quarter of 2012. Despite increases in demand across all but one market, continued supply growth limited RevPAR performances in the other major GCC markets.

In March 2012, the region’s occupancy jumped 14.6 percent to 65.1 percent, its average daily rate increased 3.3 percent to US$175.33 and its revenue per available room jumped 18.4 percent to US$114.07.

The Americas region reported a 3.8-percent increase in occupancy to 63.7 percent, a 3.5-percent gain in average daily rate to US$109.06 and a 7.5-percent jump in revenue per available room to US$69.49.

In year-over-year measurements, the Asia/Pacific region’s occupancy increased 4.4 percent to 69.4 percent, its average daily rate increased 4.8 percent to US$145.64 and its revenue per available room was up 9.4 percent to US$101.01.

In the first quarter of 2012, the region reported a 0.8-percent increase in occupancy to 57.5 percent, a 1.7-percent rise in ADR to EUR97.45 and a 2.5-percent increase to EUR56.07.

The hotel inventory compound annual growth (CAGR) increased by 1.6 percent over the 12-year period, led by Asia/Pacific and the Middle East/Africa region, which grew respectively by 2.7 percent and 2.5 percent CAGR through February 2012.

South Africa saw revenue per available room (RevPAR) increase by 13.6 percent for the first two months of this year, reaching ZAR542.07

The Americas region reported a 3.1-percent increase in occupancy to 57.7 percent, a 3.8-percent gain in average daily rate to US$106.53 and 7.0-percent jump in revenue per available room to US$61.49.
