Projects Build Up In Early Planning As Developers Schedule Market Entry For 2014 & Beyond

In 2011, 390 hotels/42,187 rooms will open, with an additional 368 hotels/40,070 rooms to open in 2012. Net supply growth, after removals from inventory, will range from 0.6%-0.8% for each of the next three years.

The Total Pipeline for the Asia Pacific region grew in Q1 to 2,036 projects/505,562 rooms. As measured by rooms, the Q1 2011 Pipeline is virtually even with the peak reached in Q2 2008 and is heavily driven by development activity in China.

Canada has the world's 6th largest Pipeline project count of any country, following the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.

The Latin America Total Construction Pipeline increased for a fifth consecutive quarter to 517 projects/83,939 rooms at the end of Q1 2011.

Further declines have brought Construction Pipeline counts to a new cyclical low of 2,951 projects/354,100 rooms in Q1 2011. With 426 projects/54,530 rooms, just 14% of total Pipeline projects and 15% of rooms, Under Construction totals have fallen to lows not seen since the 1990's. Conversely, Early Planning counts have been growing since Q4 2009. Hotels that are larger and have longer time lines are being planned today for when construction financing becomes more accessible.
